North Texas Chapter of Docomomo US and Preservation Dallas invite you to join us for a talk and tour of the Dallas Zoo, with an emphasis on its mid-century modern heritage.

We’ll start with a talk by Willis Winters, FAIA, architect and Director of Dallas Park and Recreation Department, on the history of the Zoo’s master plans in its Oak Cliff location in Marsalis Park, going all the way back to 1912. Then we will tour the lovely grounds of the zoo, visiting several of the remaining buildings and landscape features from the midcentury era. The day includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Herpetarium (1966) by a zoo animal curator. After that, you’ll be free to continue to explore the zoo’s extraordinary animal habitats and exhibits, or to sample the many tasty lunch options.

A donation of $10 includes admission to the zoo and a parking pass (although we encourage everyone to ride DART to the zoo stop, right across the street).

Space is limited and reservations are strictly required.
