Houston Mod, in collaboration with Project Row Houses Houston, presents a walking tour of the recently restored Eldorado Ballroom in Houston's Third Ward.

The Eldorado Ballroom is the cornerstone of the creative place-keeping work Project Row Houses does in the Third Ward to preserve the built environment of one of Houston's oldest African American neighborhoods. The Eldorado Ballroom, founded in 1939, was a venue that featured local jazz and blues musicians, such as Jewel Brown, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Big Mama Thorton, who later became nationally known. It also featured nationally recognized musicians, such as James Brown, BB King, and Ray Charles, early in their careers.

The Ballroom was awarded a Docomomo US Modernism in America Award this year.

The tour will be lead by David Bucek, FAIA, a Houston Board member and principal of Stern & Bucek Architects, the firm that completed the restoration project.

Free to Houston Mod and Docomomo US members, no registration required.

This event is part of Docomomo US Tour Day 2023.
