Coldspring Newtown Walking Tour

Baltimore, MD
Image details

Designed by Moshe Safdie & Associates, Coldspring Newtown sought to revitalize Baltimore’s downtown after the racial violence of the 1960s through innovative urban planning and architectural design. The master plan called for 3,780 residential units, a community center, schools, and a town center spanning the Jones Falls Expressway. 252 residences were completed by 1978, but the rest of the plan remains unrealized.

Join us for a tour of the community and see inside some of the iconic “deck homes” built during the first phase of development. Architects, planners, and long-time residents will provide their perspectives on the project during a question and answer session, and a guided walking tour through the Coldspring Newtown with limited access to the private residences will follow.
